The Alphabet Years: A is where the adventure begins

Image
It’s 24 days into 2018 and I’m only now sharing my new year’s resolutions. I am, however, giving myself a pass because mine aren’t just for one year, they’re for 26. Since university, I haven’t planned my life more than a few months ahead. I thought I was a free spirit, but I now believe it was indicative of the opposite – one caged by fear. One that’s scared to plan and be disappointed; terrified to make goals, in case I miss the goalposts. The letter A is for... x While I had an incredible past year of achievements, I experienced something akin to daily stress fractures on my brain, which created fissures and cracks in my mind triggering mania and depression in rapid cycles. Now, I have chosen to unlock the cage: I’m committing myself fully to my creative endeavours all while travelling wherever this wild spirit finds itself drawn to, because that spirit was slowly dying. I was not in a good way. Now, here I am with the vastness of life stretched out before me. These e...

Around The World in 70 Days

Image
Sydney Harbour Snowboarding injury. My clumsiness hasn't changed. Today in 1889 female journalist Nelly Bly began her successful attempt to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days. She beat it by eight days and back in 2004 I beat it by ten days. To be fair technology in the 115 years between our voyages might  have made my trip a little bit easier. As per Instagram it seems that Thursdays are Throwback Thursdays these days. So as a result I visited my very first blog...my travelpod blog about my trip around the world. What a trip down memory lane! I suppose then I'll share some snaps. Between my London departure and return, my journey included surfing in Bali, museums in Melbourne, snowboarding in New Zealand (inevitable injury included), suffering from the flu in Sydney, beaching in Hawaii, loving Los Angeles, losing money in Las Vegas, locked in Alcatraz in San Francisco, mooching around Miami and burning around Bermuda on a moped. Beautiful memories were made. Celebrat...

Crescent Moon

Life is good. Really good. Celebrations are in order as I've officially gained representation with Crescent Management . I'm very excited to join this lovely agency with lovely people. When I went in to meet them I immediately felt at home and really adored all the members. So, hopefully, I'll start getting some work and keep moving forward. In other news, I just am elated at the moment. I'm remembering to take my meds and I've quit all my anti-anxieties and flushed them down the toilet. I realised that for nearly four years not a day went by that I wasn't completely present. I was unable to respect my feelings. No matter how I felt I wanted to change it. If I was up I'd take and drink whatever I could to make myself more up. If I was down I'd want to be in oblivion so I couldn't experience that. Now, I'm realising I'm human and that it's natural to encounter the ups and downs of everyday life and process them appropriately. Life h...

Elyse + Andrew

Image
Awwww love. Wedding number 432 for this summer. Well, clearly not. But it seems that my summer has been spent dressing up to celebrate close friends tying the knot. I was happily able to witness Elyse and Andrew jumping the broom yesterday. Not so happily was that fact that I was sooo ill I could barely stand. But I soldiered on, and it was a lovely day with an incredible celebration. They did a same-day edit of all the wedding festivities and showed it at about 11pm. I nearly caught the bouquet (not normally my thing, but I decided to be a good sport about it), but then had it ripped from my hands by a clearly keener girl. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. Today in 1908, US President Lyndon. B. Johnson was born. The following quote comes from him: "We have talked long enough in this country about equal rights. We have talked for one hundred years or more. It is time now to write it in the books of law." But his other quotes are much funnier. The man had ...

Ki

I landed in Toronto yesterday to celebrate the wedding of two of my close friends Elyse and Andrew. The wedding is in a couple of hours and I feel ROTTEN. Is it the result of too much partying? I wish. Last night I had dinner with one of my favourite married couples Miranda and Chris and another friend Sabrina. We went to Ki, a modern Japanese restaurant on Bay Street. The food was phenomenal. And Miranda and Chris generously paid for everyone's dinner, which was absolutely lovely of them. Chris left to join the boys on a pre-wedding night out. Us girls (pictured) went onto party in town, and that's when the trouble began. I just felt like my food wasn't digesting. By the time I got home I felt truly awful and basically spent the entire night being sick. Not cool. Seeing as we all had sharing plates, and no one else is ill, I have to admit it's probably just a stomach flu I've picked up. But whatever it is, I'm fighting to celebrate today (fighting to stay on m...

World Blood Donor Day

Image
Today, June 14th is World Blood Donor Day and is dedicated to "thanking and celebrating voluntary non-remunerated blood donors". It always occures on June 14th as this is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner who created the ABO blood group system, for which he won the Nobel Prize. In celebration of this day I encourage you all to give blood, especially those in Bermuda, because we have a large deficit in our blood supply. I would love to give blood, however due to the amount of time I spent in the UK during the BSE crisis I am not permitted to give blood in Bermuda. This policy desperately needs to be changed if we are to increase our blood supply in any meaningful way. There are too many people on the island who are exempt and therefore cannot supply blood no matter their interest in doing so. Today was a bittersweet day as I said goodbye to my best friend Mia who has gone off to the UK to pursue her music caree...
